What is SCORM?
Due to the recent growth of online training
methods, many different learning technologies
have emerged to track user performance as
well as content mastery. However, before
the emergence of an eLearning standard there
was no standard methodology in place to
ensure integration between Learning Management
Systems (LMS) and training content. With
the arrival of the Shareable Content Object
Reference Model (SCORM) standard, this communication
gap has been bridged by offering a unified
approach for importing and launching training
content from any SCORM compliant LMS.
Why should I enable my content
with SCORM?
By SCORM-enabling your content, you simplify
the process of loading and launching training
material from any compliant LMS. This is
especially helpful for re-sellers that need
to package and deliver their training to
a customer that already has a hosted LMS
solution in place.
From the developer's point-of-view, SCORM
also provides methods for saving data between
learning sessions without having to rely
on server-side middleware and unreliable
methods such as cookies. This way, if learners
do not complete the course in one session
they can return to the training exactly
as they left it.
How can Wild Entity upgrade
my content to SCORM?
In our experience, most web-based training
can be wrapped with custom Javascript in
order to utilize the SCORM, without affecting
the existing functionality of the content.
Wild Entity specializes in evaluating any
type of web-based training to identify the
best way to integrate our custom SCORM wrapper
with your existing content.
Can Application Service Providers
(ASPs) take advantage of SCORM?
Absolutely. Even though ASPs use remote
server-side scripting instead of a client-side
method to track and record user performance,
they can still be fitted with a custom Javascript
wrapper to interact with a SCORM compliant
LMS. Keeping in mind that most ASPs require
user authentication to access dynamic training
content, Wild Entity can review your product
to propose the easiest method to make SCORM
connectivity a reality for your training
application. |
